Ultrasonic detection
Ultrasonic Detection
Ultrasound covers static installations such as valves, steam lines, vacuum chambers, and even foundations. It can also be used with infrared thermography to detect electrical anomalies in power distribution installations.
Leak detection is also one of the interesting uses of ultrasound. Plants have realized significant savings by locating and eliminating leaks that escape into the air from steam lines and other pressurized systems. The same simple technique can be used to check the integrity of piping, vessels, and vacuum seals.
Exemple:
For an Atlas Copco GA oil-injected compressor at a nominal pressure of 7 bar, a leak of just 0.5 mm can result in an annual loss of 476 euros (electricity estimated at 0.085 euros/kWh).
